Applying bold inverts selection

This occurs on Anki Desktop 2.1.54 (b6a7760c) on Windows, while in the “Add” view making a new card. It may happen elsewhere as well.

When I am trying to mark a specific word bold, it will instead bold the rest of the selection. When reviewing the HTML for the card, it reflects accordingly:

However, after un-marking all of the contents as bold and then selecting that area again, it works correctly until a new card is made. This might have to do with information copied from elsewhere; For example, this text copied from a google document has bold tags outside of a span, and when I try to mark my selection as bold, it performs this inversion while stripping the span.

If it can be reproduced with the latest Anki version, please show us the HTML text before you start making any modifications, and then again afterwards.

I updated to the latest off of the site (2.1.60, 76d88073, debug info below) and I’m experiencing the same situation; Here are the “before and after” screenshots.
