AnkiMobile - add audio to all cards automatically iPhone

Hello,

I’ve been using Ankiapp thinking it’s the original and just downloaded AnkiMobile, but somehow Ankiapp was much simpler to use for me…

I would simply like to add a card in English and then have the French translation with Audio on the back. Without having to do this manually for each card. So just as soon as I make a new card, the audio is added automatically for French (text to speech ?)
I’m not so good with tech. Can someone please show me in a simple/ straightforward way how to do that ? I found a way now to add manually yet not automatically awesomeTTS on Mac and then synchronise it for ankimobile. But I still don’t know how to do it by default for each card or add a new card on Ankimobile with sound.

Thanks a lot for your help

There are various tutorials that float around. I followed this one without issue and it has worked perfectly fine for my uses:

Thanks for answering ! I checked it out but the video was made four years ago. I think it doesn’t match with the latest Anki version or update. The voice sounds extremely strange, almost inaudible if I follow the instructions from the video.

AnkiMobile uses the same TTS functionality as the other apps. See Text to Speech - AnkiMobile Manual and Field Replacements - Anki Manual .

The TTS functionality won’t have changed; the basic formatting is the same as it was then. I used the same instructions a couple/few months ago

Thanks ! When I add new cards on laptop and sync with AnkiApp I have no issues hearing the audio. I would just like to know how to create a card and the audio is added automatically - especially directly on ankimobile.

The directions for what you need to do are on those pages that I linked and in that video brainravens posted.

By the way – that’s a great video that walks you through exactly how to make these changes to your card templates. I have no problems with the audio, but it also has closed captions you can turn on, and even if you just watch it, you’ll have a good sense of what to look for.

The only difference is that he’s using desktop Anki, and you are also using AnkiMobile. You can edit your card templates on either one (pro tip: it’s easier on desktop). But you’ll also need to make sure you have TTS voices enabled on your iOS device, which is what the first link above explained. You’ll know you’ve done that right when you can get your template to show you a list of TTS voices when you preview your card (explained in the manual and on the video).

This is how to set up text-to-speech in AnkiMobile:

If the name of the field is “Back”, embedding it in the card template should work.(Probably almost the same mechanism as AnkiApp)

  • {{tts fr_FR:Back}}

If you want to generate and add more advanced audio in bulk, need to use add-ons on the laptop.
