Anki Showing too many cards since a study break

Hi Anki users,

I hope you’re all doing well with your studies. I recently encountered an issue with my Anki flashcards, and I’m seeking some advice and guidance on how to resolve it.

Here’s my situation:

  • I’ve been using Anki regularly to study, and I currently have a total of 3,091 cards in my deck.

  • I took a study break in August and returned to find 1,700 cards due after just 4 weeks. I was able to work through all of them during that time.

  • However, I’ve noticed that Anki has started to show me a large number of cards within a couple of days. For instance, not studying for just 2 days can result in 800 cards due, which is becoming overwhelming.

  • Another issue I’ve noticed is that sometimes the “good” button results in a 3-day interval, while the “easy” button shows a 2-day interval. I suspect this might be related to some changes I made while following a tutorial on ideal interval settings.

I’m now at a point where having 800 cards due after a weekend isn’t an effective study mode for me anymore. I’m looking for suggestions on how to address these problems and optimize my Anki study experience.

Specifically, I’d like to know:

  1. How can I better manage the influx of cards that seem to accumulate so quickly?
  2. What can I do to ensure that the “good” and “easy” buttons are assigning appropriate intervals?
  3. Is there a way to recalibrate my Anki settings to avoid these issues in the future?

Any advice, tips, or recommendations from fellow Anki users would be greatly appreciated. I want to get back on track with efficient and effective study sessions.

Thank you in advance for your help! Screenshots are uploaded

  1. How can I better manage the influx of cards that seem to accumulate so quickly?

Basically Anki needs to be reviewed every per day, but you can also use these add-ons features to make a vacations.

[Postpone add-ons] Postpone the review and pretend the absence didn’t happen.

[Weekend add-ons] Shift reviews and create a weekly holiday.

Also look into “Ease Hell”.

  1. What can I do to ensure that the “good” and “easy” buttons are assigning appropriate intervals?

Perhaps those problems can be safely ignored. You will need to contact the person who recommended setting up the deck or revert to Anki’s default settings.

  1. Is there a way to recalibrate my Anki settings to avoid these issues in the future?

Try using a custom schedule and reviewing lots of future cards before your vacation.

The majority of your cards have short intervals, so they will appear comparitively frequently until the memories grow stronger. If you are also introducing new cards, stopping that for a while will ease the burden.
