When I type that in, nothing comes up, not even an invalid message. I tried different names for the deck but none of the other names worked (gave me an invalid message). and when I typed in another deck’s name I did get results. But I am certain I still have new cards to review. and when I type in “is:new” and scroll through I do find jack sparrow cards (I know that because of the cards’ tags).
Maybe the other new jack sparrow cards are in a different deck? When you find these cards by typing is:new, make sure they are in the deck you’re studying by looking at the Deck column in the browser.
Can you post a screenshot of your parent deck and its subdecks and a screenshot of the browser when you search for is:new and find new cards?
Yes. As you can see on the left column, the deck name is written as “Jack Sparrow Deck”. and the card that I clicked on has the tag “JackSparrow”. When I use the filter and choose “Jack Sparrow Deck”, a bunch of cards come up that I have not seen before.
Maybe the subdecks that have new cards are misconfigured? I see there are new cards in the deck called Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems. Select that deck from the deck list and click Options and make sure the New cards/day option is set to some number other than zero. Do the same for other subdecks. though this does not explain why they don’t show when you search for deck:"Jack Sparrow Deck" is:new.
Also the deck column should show subdeck names with double semicolons between each level like parent_deck::subdeck::another_sub_deck. This doesn’t seem to be the case with your decks. I’m not sure what’s the problem…
Yeah I’ve already made sure this wasn’t the problem. This is what I have my options for the “chemical and physical foundations of biological systems” subdeck.
Can you export your collection and upload it somewhere so I can test it? Use the export option from File > Export. Uncheck the Incude media option.
Yes, thank you. Where can I upload it? And is there a specific file format I should export it as? Also, sorry for the delayed response, it is making me wait 5 hours before being able to post my next reply.

There are actually no new cards in the Jack Sparrow Deck, but there are a lot of new cards with the tag JackSparrow but in different decks.
I find your collection confusing; you have main decks with the same names as subdecks in the Jack Sparrow deck.
You may want to merge these separate decks into the Jack Sparrow deck by moving each deck’s cards into the subdeck with the same name and deleting the separate decks. Like this:
So the problem is just that your collection is messy
Thank you so much. But can you explain how I can merge them? And how to know which subdecks have the tag “jack sparrow”? Also, do you know why I may not have been experiencing this problem earlier?
Go to each deck in the browser, select all cards, right-click and select the Change Deck option
Do the same for the three decks.
You have multiple hierarchical tags with the top-level tag named #JackSparrow.
To see all their cards, use tag:#JackSparrow* in the browser search box.
You noticed the problem now because the Jack Sparrow deck has no more new cards. It’s just a problem with your collection organization. You can study the other Jack Sparrow cards from their separate decks without moving them to the Jack Sparrow deck. It’s your choice. But I suggest spending some time organizing your collection. Maybe use less decks and use tags to classify your materials instead as recommended in the Anki manual?
