Anki is blank very long after starting it

Hello, since 2 weeks I experience a blank screen on my Silicon Mac after starting anki. After 30 seconds to 1 minute waiting, everything works. But it’s starting to annoy me. I searched in other forums but nothing worked. I have the newest version of Anki installed.

I started it with my terminal and its says this:

Anki starting...

Initial setup...

Yes, I did all the steps but nothing worked.
I noticed that if I have no internet, the problem doesn’t occur. But when I have Internet, it occurs again. With internet connection, it says after 2 seconds that it’s synchronized (but the screen is blank). And when I press shift while starting, the problem occurs too.

I deactivated all the add-ons, that did nothing too.

What anki version and os are you running? Did you try changing the video driver? Did you do anything special when this started happening?

It may also be some other software running on your machine, if you use a proxy/VPN/antivirus/etc.

I run: Version ⁨24.04.1 (ccd9ca1a)⁩ Python 3.9.18 Qt 6.6.2 PyQt 6.6.1

I think you can’t change the video driver on MacOS.

I can’t recall doing anything special when it started to happen. I installed the newest version of MacOS 2 days ago and it didn’t help

I recently installed eduVPN on my Mac, but I don’t recall that it had any impact on Anki.

I don’t have any Antivirus or Proxy installed on my Mac.

You can. The checklist has a “Mac”-specific link that explains a couple ways.

I tried it, but it did nothing…

a. Which one did you try, and did you restart after you switched?

Because of the way you phrased some of these answers, I want to get down to the nitty-gritty on a couple things –

b. Did you hold down Shift down until you got the confirmation message?

c. After you manually deactivated the add-ons, did you restart Anki?

d. I find it meaningful that (1) it only happens when you’re internet connected, (2) dae thought it might be VPN related, and (3) you recently installed a VPN. What happens if you leave the internet connected but turn off auto-sync on start – Tools > Preferences > Syncing – then restart?

Sorry, my english is not very good.

a) I tried it with the command echo software > ~/Library/Application\ Support/Anki2/gldriver6 ; and restarted the computer. It didn`t help either

b) Yes!
c) Yes!
d) It only happens when I’m connected to the internet. I tried turning syncing off, but its still not working properly.

Thank you for your help!

Now I tried it with a vpn connection on. It’s working!
Does it has something to do with my router settings?! Thats weird…
The app on my IPhone is working properly.

I’ll try it tomorror at the university…

I tried it with another internet connection and it worked. It has something to do with my home internet.

I’ll look into that.

Thank you all for your help!

Okay, I got the solution. It had something to do with my DNS-settings. We used cloudflare DNS-servers and now we changed back to the local router ip.

Thank you all for your help!
