Anki Images not appearing on PC

I recently downloaded a large deck from another user. When I open the deck the images do not appear, but only show a box indicating that there should be an image. I suspect part of the issue may be that the deck was made on a mac, but I am using a windows computer. My anki is fully update and everything seem to have appeared to synch properly. Is there a way to fix this?

That usually means that you don’t have the images.

  • Did the other user include the images in the export?
  • Was the file you imported an apkg or text/CSV?
  • Have you run Tools > Check Media to see if it shows “missing” files?
  • Did you import it directly on this PC, or did you import it on another device and sync it to this PC?

It was a apkg and the other user did include images in the export! Others who downloaded the deck have been fine (all with macs). When I run tools > check media shows 0 missing files but quite a few “unused files”. I imported the deck straight onto the pc. Any and all ideas / suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Do the images show when you import the .apkg into a new profile? Please press ctrl+shift+x in a field, and paste the HTML text here inside backticks.

They do not show up when i import it into a new profile. When I press ctrl+shift+x in the field next to the image i get <img src="Screen%20Shot%202019-08-09%20at%201.23.55%20PM.png">

  • Does that file exist in your collection.media folder – Managing Files - Anki Manual ?
  • Is that one of the files listed in Check Media as “unused”?

If the images are not showing as missing, it’s possible they are broken. If you open the media folder and try to view the image, does it display correctly? Did you import this deck using the latest version of Anki?

I sometimes get this when testing my own made decks by importing them into a separate profile. Sometimes the images will appear after a bit of time and a restart. Maybe this is some kind of a caching issue. Especially since you are saying your deck is large, and caching (supposing it is involved) should take longer for larger collections.
