Anki algorithm not working properly

Hey guys, I have a question.

I updated to the latest version of Anki today, and since then my algorithm has been acting weird.
Normally, you study around 6–8 new cards at a time, and then gradually more are added step by step.
But now it’s like I have to go through all the new cards first, and then I have to learn them all at once. What’s also new, is that sometimes when I click ‘’show answer’’ the card freezes for a short time before showing the answer. This hasn’t happened to me before and I’ve been already using anki for a couple of months now.

If it would be possible, I’d like to have the default algorithm back.

Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone know what to do about it?
Thanks in advance!

You are using the default algorithm (SM-2).

Do you have any idea what version you upgraded from – or about when you installed? [I can see when your AnkiWeb account was created – was it around that time?] You mention using Anki for a couple of months, so I expect it wasn’t a very old version.

The only other major scheduling update has been the shift from the v2 to v3 scheduler, but v3 would have always been your scheduler if you installed in the past year-and-a-half.

You definitely have your Display Options set to mix New with Review. Your preset is used by over 1900 decks [goodness, that’s so many decks!], so I think it’s unlikely you have a different one, but check the dropdown at the top of Display Options to be sure.

It sounds like you’re talking about when cards are coming back on their learning steps, but your settings look normal for that too.

Do you have a big backup of Learn/Relearn cards (on the red counter in the decks list or study screen)?

For this, see the Troubleshooting Checklist – Troubleshooting - Anki Manual – start with #6, #7, and #2.

When you respond, please also go to Anki > About – click Copy Debug Info – paste that entire result here.

Hi, thank you so much for your answer

I installed Anki at the time I created the account, but have been using it frequently a couple months ago.
I have now changed the Option from mix New with Review (see picture below) and I have now tried to study a new deck, but it still does the same thing, that I have to go through all cards in the deck and then I can review them

As you said, I will go now through the Troobleshooting Checklist. Once again thanks a lot!

This would be the Debug Information:

Anki 25.02.4 (a5c33ad0) (ao)
Python 3.9.18 Qt 6.6.2 PyQt 6.6.1
Platform: macOS-13.4-arm64-arm-64bit

And I forgot to add this, this would be my learn /due rate

There’s the issue. You have a big backup of Learn/Relearn cards. Those were all set for short learning step delays, and they are now all overdue, so you are going to see them before any other cards. There are so many of them, that they are also getting in the way of each other because they are cued up in order. Study those, graduate them to Review, and then you’ll start seeing more familiar cycles when you study.

Hi, thanks for your answer once again! I think I found the ‘’issue’’:

I wanted to go through my cards a lot faster, so I increased the speed I was clicking the ankis, thus I got more card to learn at once than I’m used to. I did that, after I installed the update. Combined with the short glitch I thought, that my algorithm was not working anymore haha since I’m used to learn like 6-10 cards at a time, before I gradually learn the new cards in the deck.
I changed not my video driver on anki and this short delay now disappeared. Once again thanks for your time
