as my previous post did not result in any solution to my problem, I would like to just point out once agian, that the old alternate build of Anki is running without any issue on either of my laptops. So I cannot help but wonder what is the difference (there obviously is something)?
The debugging information when trying to reinstall several times where basically these two:

However, as I said, the old Anki 2.1.35-alternate runs without problems. Is there any chance that there will be a newer alternate build for those who might have the same issue as me? In the following year I plan to switch to Win11 with more of my computers, wondering how it will affect the Anki. So far, two different computers with Win11, and the same results - only the old Anki 2.1.35-alternate works.
Sorry, I see someone already provided this before I could reply.
Anyways, there is not much other information there, it just does not run properly on any of these two computers, and I cleaned up and reinstall on both systems several times.
Anyways, I would still like to know, what was the difference with the alternate build, why it even existed and how comes, that this one runs without issues, while the others do not (and it happens at both of my laptop computers, both of which were fresh Win11 installations, both do not contain much bloatware, I am not even a gamer… and both computers are quite different generations - six years apart, so also not the same hardware - both Intel, though…).
OK, something interesting happened…I installed the program using the Revo Uninstaller Pro, which I previously used to get rid of Anki, as it was hard to uninstall, too. And it started once. But after closing Revo Uninstaller and run it again, it just disappeared again. I will try to run the console again now…
Ok, so what happened next…
I tried to run it from the console, it appeared for a while, just popping out for a second and disappeared again…
And the info from the console is:
C:\Windows\System32>%LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\anki-console.bat
Anki starting…
Initial setup…
Starting Anki 25.02.4…
webview proxy use disabled
2025-04-30 08:28:15,233:INFO:aqt.mediasrv: Serving on http://127.0.0.1:58945
Starting main loop…
awesometts\gui\homescreen.py:61:night_mode() is deprecated: use theme_manager.night_mode
Press any key to continue . . .
So I tried to switch the theme in the preferences from “follow system” to light, and it was running until restart. After restarting the system, not working again.
And the error is again the similar like before…
C:\Windows\System32>%LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\anki-console.bat
Anki starting…
Initial setup…
Starting Anki 25.02.4…
webview proxy use disabled

What was interesting, it was working, even syncing, downloading deck, etc… before restarting of Win11. After that it just would not run again. Should I try to switch something in the graphic setup (it was running the software mode)?
I have feeling it would be somehow related to a process “mpv”, which appeared there in the background at that time, too.
Anyway - so what I understand is: that old alternate build works always, no issues (good). But it is not compatible with newer plugins and FSRS (both bad).
Any newer version has issues, and the best which I ever managed with them is to make them working until the next system restart.
There might be some problems related to the graphics and “mpv” process, whatever it is.
And problems were occuring only on Win11 computers, which were both installed last October to December with the current system at that time. Never had any issue on my previous Win10 and Win7 computers.
Any chance that there would be alternate build for a newer version of Anki?
Seems like I can used Ankidroid, too, but for card creation computer is much more convenient, not talking about all these plugins…
“mpv” is the media player that’s bundled with Anki. It looks like you only get this – mpv timed out, restarting – in the logging sequence sometimes.
When that happens, is there a long delay before the app closes? It’s unusual to see a “timed out” if Anki and mpv close right away. But mpv has also been known to hang when Anki crashes/closes abruptly, so that could be why.
However, I’m much more interested in this:
That’s not a normal part of the startup sequence. Would you be surprised to find out that in the whole internet, that phrase only appears in relation to Anki a handful of times?
So to both you and @Godon – Are you using a Windows proxy server?
This issue was resolved for those users years ago, in 2.1.45 – but it makes me wonder if their environment variable fix / workaround or adjusting your other proxy settings as they described would work for you?
Environment variable workaround
Another workaround is to set the HTTPS_PROXY (or HTTP_PROXY) environment variable:
Set HTTPS_PROXY=http://127.0.0.1:1080
"C:\Program Files\Anki\anki.exe"
