Not sure about “Windows proxy server”… i did not set up anything special… how can I find out about this? And if yes, where to setup that “HTTPS_PROXY (or HTTP_PROXY) environment variable”?
As I said, I never had any issues while on Windows 10. Only after I got a Win 11 computer, the problem appeared. Even more surprisingly, after getting another one with Win 11, exactly the same problem. And no solution, apart from switching to a very old alternate version, which does work.
And the app closes even without starting. As I said, only when I did a very careful uninstall and install again using Revo, I managed to have it run for a while. After restart, it again refused to run, as before.
1) Maybe try to install the latest Anki version that was released last week (25.02.5) and then running Anki from the console like this, if you didn’t do it already.
echo software > %APPDATA%\Anki2\gldriver6
"%LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\anki-console"
https://docs.ankiweb.net/platform/windows/display-issues.html
2) If it doesn’t help, try this one instead.
set ANKIDEV=1
set QSG_INFO=1
set "QT_LOGGING_RULES=qt.webenginecontext.debug=true"
set "QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS=--disable-gpu"
%LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\anki-console
3) If nothing helps, try to run Anki from Python - https://faqs.ankiweb.net/running-from-python.html
I tried to run it from the console, it appeared for a while, just popping out for a second and disappeared again…
The standalone version of Anki (Version 25.02.5 (29192d15) Python 3.9.18 Qt 6.6.2 PyQt 6.6.1) works fine for me if I try to run it from the console on Windows 10, but something similar happens if I try to run Anki from Python that seems to ship with a newer Qt build (Version 25.02.5 (29192d15) Python 3.9.13 Qt 6.9.0 PyQt 6.9.0).
But Anki opens just fine, if I run it with
echo software > %APPDATA%\Anki2\gldriver6
\anki-venv\scripts\anki
or
set ANKIDEV=1
set QSG_INFO=1
set "QT_LOGGING_RULES=qt.webenginecontext.debug=true"
set "QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS=--disable-gpu"
\anki-venv\scripts\anki
That is really interesting… I should give try to some of these later when catching some time. I tried the console option before (the first one, not the second one, though)
Still not solved, will continue trying and researching after I find some time for this.
What happens if you try New online installer/launcher?
Thanks for pointing this option out. Will try that one in next few days or so.
OH, and Anki still runs on my old Windows 10 laptop, which I just opened after many months, updated everything and no issues… thinking about trying to upgrade to Windows 11 on this one (as it will need to be done anyway), and see… if it works, then I could still have one computer working with Anki… at least for a while
So I can confirm Anki continues working on that laptop after updating to the Windows 11. Interestingly, it does not work on these two laptops, which were both fresh Windows 11 installations. I will try with that launcher on one of them soon.
(does not work - I mean any newer version after that alternate build, of course).

Tried also the regular installer, the results were similar to before.
Almost thinking of installing Windows 10 on one of them, installing Anki and upgrade to Win 11 after, just to see…
What CPU does the affected machine have? Do any of the steps shown in this video help? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIRwL1jXBcU
I will look over this, thank you for your help, too. And just now downgraded one of the machines (the one which I use only a little anyway), and yes, in Windows 10, no problem. Will do upgrade to Win 11 now on it, too. Let us see…
And it works! So this seems like a possible workaround. Of course, the other machine which is my main computer now would be a bit more annoying to reinstall - downgrade and upgrade, and all the stuff, but I might still do it after the summer holidays, as it looks this is the only secure option for me now. All for Anki…
Well, for some reason, on that laptop now OneDrive does not work, not sure why. But Anki runs without issues. Maybe I just leave these computers for Anki and my main comp use mainly for different issues.
But one thing is clear - if the freshly installed Windows 11 machine has aforementioned problems with Anki, downgrade to Win 10 - install Anki - upgrade to Win 11 could be a solution.
