What number of subdecks will start to cause problems in Anki?

I have a deck of about 9000 notes broken up into 26 subdecks. I remember reading somewhere that having too many subdecks can cause problems in Anki, so I am wondering if anyone knows whether this is a safe number of subdecks to have?

I am using the latest version of Anki (2.1.49) on a new iPhone and iMac which are also up to date with the latest versions of their respective operating systems.

26 is a reasonable amount of subdecks. 2600 would probably not. If you want to be safe, learn about tags and use them. They should provide a more flexible alternative to subdecks for most of subdeck usages, so if you use them “normally” you should never have to worry about reaching a maximum number of subdecks.

I do not have problems.
I have around 90k cards and around 300 subdecks in up to 5 levels.
