I’m a total newcomer to Anki. I’m using a deck downloaded from the internet; it’s a deck of 100 words. But the first 10 or so words keep repeating and never stop. I don’t want to deal with the whole rating system of easy or hard etc. I just want to begin at the beginning of the deck and go through to the end. Is there any way to do so? I prefer to use the “return” or “space” key for advancing. Thanks.
You are kinda fighting Anki here since the main usecase for anki is spaced repetition which you want to remove.
That being said you can sort of achieve what you want by using a filtered deck.
Go to tools->Create filtered deck. Name the deck whatever you want.
In search field enter "deck:<YOUR DECK NAME>"
. Make sure is:due
is not present. Set the card limit to a number >= the number of cards in your deck.
When you create your deck you will have a deck where you can review all your cards in order. When done, you can press rebuild
to start from scratch.
For more info see Filtered Deck and Searching
To clarify, you’re rating the card to come back again. Anki, essentially is a spaced repetition + active recall app so cards are supposed to come back for practice. Without that, you might as well just read through a word list online. Studying - Anki Manual
As others have noted, some features here are pretty well baked-in to Anki and are not easily done away with.
That being said, the space key is, by default, set to progress cards. Further, there are addons that can be used to customize keymappings if you so desire.
Beyond that, it’s not entirely clear what exactly you’re hoping to accomplish. If you can be more specific about your aims there are plenty of folks happy to help you out.
