Updating AnkiDroid

Hi!
What should one take into account when updating?
I must update AnkiDroid from 2.15.6 to 2.16.5 on my old mobile phone (Android 6).
Should I just start the new .apk? Or is it recommended to backup the data somehow?
Well, I don’t think that one should first deinstall the previous version, right?

In the manual I haven’t find any practical tips to “updating” of AnkiDroid.
And after having troubles with sync (Select collection to keep. The collections can't be combined) I am tryinig to check every step I make.

There is no need to uninstall the old version. Just run the .apk and it should upgrade seamlessly.

However, as you say, it is always a good idea to keep a backup. To do so, click the three dots in the top right and select “Export collection”. You’ll want to check the boxes to include both scheduling and media for a complete backup.
