Unsuspending leeches vs resetting the card

Hello. I would like to ask what you do personally do and what’s recommended when it comes to dealing with leeches. Currently I have my cards to get marked and suspended at the default threshold of 8.

Let’s say I attempt to fix one of my leeches by modifying the card, now I have two options:

a) Unsuspend
According to the manual, when I unsuspend one of those cards the lapse count is not reset and the card would get suspended again when the lapse count reaches 12 (so, after failing it 4 more times.)

This option also results in Anki retaining the interval of the card, so if I simply unsuspend a car and hit the “Good” option I may not see it again for weeks.

Here’s what makes me doubt this option, with FSRS-5 you can let FSRS handle the (re)learning steps of the card which means that even if I press “Again” I may not see the card for an entire week or more depending on how much time has passed since the card was first suspended.

b) Reset
If I reset the card then the lapse count resets too and the card would become a leech again when the lapse count reaches 8. This option seems to reset the interval and the card gets treated as a new card for all intents and purposes.

*I didn’t know what’s the correct category to choose for discussing this, but I settled on the FSRS one since I’m letting FSRS handle my (re)learning steps.

I go with another option –
c) Unsuspend and Set Due Date

I want to see the cards for that note sooner rather than later, to see if the fix worked. Even if the fix worked, I will probably still need to Again the card and relearn it. But I like to give myself a few days to see how the change settled into my brain. The bigger the change, the sooner I want to see it, so something like 3-7 – for smaller changes 5-20.

I wouldn’t reset the card to New for 2 reasons – it robs FSRS of the data it needs to understand what is happening with the card, and resetting the lapse count delays re-leeching, so I won’t be able to react more quickly if it continues to be a problem.
