Unable to Reinstall AnkiMobile Without Paying Again Despite Purchase History Confirmation

Hello Anki Team and Community,

I recently encountered an issue with AnkiMobile on my iPhone. I purchased the app from the App Store for $24.99 some time ago, and it is clearly listed in my purchase history under the same Apple ID I originally used. However, after uninstalling the app and attempting to reinstall it, the App Store is asking me to pay for it again.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far to resolve the issue:

  1. Confirmed the purchase in purchase history under my Apple ID.
  2. Attempted to redownload the app from the App Store, but it shows a price instead of the cloud download icon.
  3. Cleared the App Store cache by tapping 10 times on a tab.
  4. Signed out and back into the App Store with the correct Apple ID.
  5. Reached out to Apple Support, but they directed me to contact the developer.

I am looking for advice or a solution to reinstall the app without paying for it again. Has anyone experienced this issue, or can the Anki team help me restore access to my purchased app?

Thank you for your time and assistance!

Have you tried to open the Account section on the AppStore → AppsNot on this device (or something like this) and locating Anki there and downloading it from there?

Apple support is funny: there is nothing developers can do when there are problems with the AppStore, which is run by Apple.

It’s unfortunate that some Apple Support folks do that, because Anki doesn’t have any control over Apple-Store-side things.

Did you go to the main page for the app, or did you go in through your profile to see your “Purchased” apps? Reinstalling - AnkiMobile Manual

I went to both the main page for the app and through my profile to see the “Purchased” apps and to no avail. I’m at a loss, honestly. Did I just lose 25$?

Yeah, I tried what you suggested and it didn’t work. Are you implying that there’s no solution to this? That really sucks.

If you go through “Purchased” apps, it shows up there, and it won’t download – that is definitely a question for Apple Support. No, I don’t think you lost your money – I think you just got a bum-contact at Apple who didn’t know what they were talking about. Unfortunately, the best solution to that is for you to contact them again.

If you’ve yet to do so, you may find a device restart and/or logging out + logging back into the app store helps. If it does not help, I’m afraid you’ll need to brave the Apple support lotto again.
