Any suggestions for studying new anki flashcards while having 5k relearn cards piled up?
It doesn’t make much sense to study new cards when you have so many cards to review, what I would do would be to continue with my normal reviews with no new cards, and eventually you’ll catch up (you may find that setting review order to “Descending ease” can be helpful to spped things up)
Still, if you want to see new cards, I would recommend preview new cards (without rescheduling) using filtered decks:

If you do not have the time/energy to get through the backlog, you may wish to consider suspending the less important cards so you can focus on the other ones.
