Recently I downloaded a deck for the Japanese “Genki” textbooks. Only wanting to study vocab for certain lessons, I created a filtered deck. I found that while studying these completely new cards (a lot of which I already know well), they had seemingly random time steps (I had not set custom steps), with some cards jumping to 9 months on a correct first attempt, and others spread out over a range of unreasonably long times.
If you downloaded the deck from somewhere other than AnkiWeb, the deck author may have forgotten to exclude the scheduling.
