Special character input on Mac

I have an issue on the Mac Desktop Version 2.1.35 (84dcaa86):

I work with German language settings on a German system (OS X Catalina 10.15.7) and have to use special characters from other languages than German like é, č, etc.

The normal way for access to these characters is pressing the letter on the keyboard for some time, OS X than comes up with a small popup for the selection (with the mouse or a number key) of the special character:

This works systemwide and in every other application. In Anki I have the issue that while pressing the character on the keyboard the character is typing several times on the screen and if I use the number as a shortcut for the selection of the special character this number also appears in the text. So, for typing “Sémillon” I end up with “Seeeee1é” and have to delete 6 characters before I can continue typing…

Is there any help for this issue?

Thank you very much!

Thank you very much for the answer!

Not what I hoped for, but if it depends on the framework then I have to arrange with it…
