Sorry, you can't include links in your posts

Hi,

I wanted to submit an Anki suggestion. Following the Feature Requests/Suggestions link in the GitHub issue modal, I created an account here and was about to submit it only to get:

An error occurred: Sorry, you can’t include links in your posts.

I get that this is a measure to prevent link spam from new users, however perhaps you could allow links to https://docs.ankiweb.net/ and https://github.com/? Not being able to reference your documentation and code in new suggestions is quite annoying and working around this with inline codes is a hassle and makes the links harder to follow.

There have been malicious addons on AnkiWeb before, and GitHub also has malicious repos, I’ve read.

Maybe it can be selectively whitelisted? Whitelisting these rules might make sense:

  • docs.ankiweb.net
  • docs.ankidroid.org
  • docs.ankimobile.net
  • translating.ankiweb.net
  • faqs.ankiweb.net
  • addon-docs.ankiweb.net
  • apps.ankiweb.net
  • forums.ankiweb.net
  • github.com/ankitects/*
  • github.com/ankidroid/*

That way new users can refer to the documentation, to the official website, to other forum posts and to the official source code (which will hopefully never contain malware) without having to jump through hoops.

Those sites above shouldn’t bear any serious risks.

Add to the list: https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/ and possibly the other related subs.

Edit: it appears this has been discussed before Forum - allow whitelisted URLs.

I think as long as platforms have working moderation allowing links to them is fair and preventing the links doesn’t make that much sense since this forum is very much not the only way you can get there.

However it seems that Forum - allow whitelisted URLs - #3 by NameLessGO is accurate in that Discourse unfortunately apparently cannot distinguish domains for users at trust level 0.
