When browsing through my decks, certain cards in certain decks do not show up. If selecting them from the main menu and pressing “B” the cards are there, but when browsing through my decks and browsing using the menu on the left hand side, they do not show up. They do however show up when writing “*” in the search bar.
I tried reviewing ahead and wrote “9999” days as usual and it does not work for my deck, this error message pops up “No cards matched the criteria you provided.”. I don’t know if its related, but that same deck is empty when browsing.
I’m using version 26.09.3 (Python 3.13.15 Qt 6.11.2 Chromium 140), and I’ve tried to download version 26.09.2 in hopes of that working (which is does not). I’ve tried opening anki whilst holding down shift to see if its an Add-on related issue, which it is not. I’ve also tried checking the database. I’ve tried making a new user on Anki and downloading from Anki web to my mac, but nothing is working. However reviewing ahead does work on my iPad.
That sounds like those cards aren’t in the decks that you think they are, or they don’t match the characteristics that you’re searching for, even though you think they should. Can you give a concrete example of a search that you’re running and cards that you think should match it, but don’t? I can check that against your collection synced to AnkiWeb.
Is it possible that the cards are already built into another Filtered deck? A card can only be held in one Filtered deck (and one regular deck) at a time.
They should pop up when searching "“deck:[3] Third Semester::[5] Biochem::[1] Colloq 3::Bonus questions w6"”. Heres what shows up when checking the card info:

I’ve checked and I can’t find any previous custom study decks nor filtered decks
It looks like you have an unusual invisible character hiding in one of your subdeck names. I put these in a text editor so I could compare them one-to-one and took a screenshot –
The top string is what you gave me here – which returns no cards. [I fixed the smart-quotes to straight-quotes. I assume the Forum changed those from what you pasted, because if you’re actually searching with smart-quotes, that will give you a diferent error.]
The bottom string is the actual deck name that I get when clicking it in the sidebar – which returns 10 cards.
The character before “Biochem” is something other than a regular space, which shows as a pink dot in this editor.
Looking at it through an HTML parser – it looks like it’s an HTML non-breaking space, perhaps something that you copied in when you were naming decks.
If you rename that deck to replace that with a regular space instead, it should work again.
[Not what you asked about, but as an aside – you have an overwhelming number of decks. For this fine-grain level of organization, I think you’d be better served by using Tags.]
Okay, thank you so much!! All my decks now work after deleting the non-breaking space character!
Do you happen to know why that invisible character appeared, and if so, why its only on some of my decks? Also out of curiosity, do you happen to know why reviewing ahead worked on my iPad through the Anki app, but not on my mac?
Thank you again so much for the help !!!
(Regarding the tags, yes I’ve realised that I may have a lot of decks and that I probably should learn how to use tags, thank you for the tip )
I assume from something you copy-pasted – like if you copied parts of a syllabus from a website when you were naming your decks.
No, and I haven’t been able to reproduce that. For me, even with the entity/character in a deck name, the deck still behaves normally with Custom Study in desktop Anki.
Is it possible you created the Custom Study Session deck, and then edited its search string manually in its Options? If you typed or copy-pasted a version of the deck name with a regular space, it wouldn’t be able to find the cards – just like what happened when searching in Browse.
