I’ve been using Anki for quite some time now for school and language learning.
After a few years of use, my storage is starting to approach the 250MB limit. I’ve already deleted unused data and done some cleanup, but the size is still increasing since I need to keep adding more cards to keep up with school progress.
Since the last post I found on this issue is more than two years old, I’d like to know if there’s currently any indication that Anki will provide a paid service for increased storage capacity, as mentioned in the Anki FAQs:
“As the usage of Anki and AnkiWeb increases, at some point a pricing system may be introduced where basic, low-capacity accounts are free and heavier users can pay more for more space”.
Also, is there any idea of how much such a service would likely cost, including outside the US, if it were introduced?
I would like to use as much space in Anki as I want. When will there be a price setting for this, so that I don’t have to install similar apps on my phone.
If you reach the limit you can use a Self-hosted server built into Anki to replace AnkiWeb without any limit. If you are unsure how to use the console or docker for advanced users, here is my add-on to make it easier to use this self-hosted server. addon: Local Anki Server - Use self-hosted server with Wifi (Created by Shigeඞ) The local server is very fast for forced synchronization uploads and downloads (it’s almost instantaneous) so I recommend it if you are editing a lot of cards.
It is not about ‘fastness’, it is about not being able to synchronize: on my iphone I get the message ‘Your collection file is too large to send to AnkiWeb. You can reduce its size by removing any unwanted decks’. Why would I create any unwanted decks??? I need all the decks.
