Please help anki not opening on mac

Hello Anki family,

Long time Anki user, first time poster. I just got a new Macbook Pro 2024 computer and my Anki desktop app won’t open. I click it and it and the icon bounces once then stops.

  • I tried downloading and opening with Rosetta, no dice
  • I tried shift opening
  • I tried right-click opening
  • I tried deleting app and re-downloading, even older versions
  • I updated my computer to Tahoe 26.2 (it was Sequoia before, wasn’t working then either)
  • I tried opening with Terminal and I get: “no such file or directory: /Applications/Anki.app/Contents/MacOS/anki”
  • I tried not using an external monitor.

Hopefully you can see I have really done some due-diligence, but still came up empty. Any help would be much appreciated as I am a dedicated Anki user of almost ten years!!

Please try the /Applications/Anki.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher command instead. That is the Terminal command to use with the new Anki launcher.

I got this error after entering /Applications/Anki.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher

Error: Failed to execute: /Users/PabloTamarin_1/Library/Application Support/AnkiProgramFiles/.venv/bin/python -c import aqt, sys; sys.argv[0] = ‘Anki’; aqt.run(): No such file or directory (os error 2)

I did migrate over from my old mac, but I have deleted and reinstalled the app several times, so it should not be running the old intel version?
