Play card audio in sequence, like a playlist

I’d like to suggest a new feature that would make AnkiDroid even more powerful for language learners: the ability to play card audio in sequence, like a playlist.

Idea:

When I long-press on a deck or filtered deck, the menu currently shows options like Export, Options, etc.

I suggest adding a new option: “Play Card Audio”.

When selected, AnkiDroid would automatically play through the audio fields ({{Vocabulary-Audio}}, {{Sentence-Audio}}, etc.) of the cards due in that deck (or filtered deck).

Playback should follow the same order as the review queue.

Ideally, this could continue in the background, so learners can listen hands-free (similar to a podcast or playlist).

Why this would help:

Many language learners want to reinforce vocabulary and sentences through passive listening.

This feature would let us review “today’s cards” or a filtered deck without tapping through each card manually.

It would create a hands-free “audio review mode” that complements normal study sessions.

This would be a huge improvement for people who study while commuting, exercising, or doing chores.

Thank you for considering this idea!

That’s not how Anki works. You need to tell Anki how well you remembered each card.

Nevertheless, you can do what you’re asking for with the auto advance feature[1] by:

  1. Disabling Don't play audio automatically.
  2. Enabling Skip question when replaying answer.
  3. Setting Seconds to show question for and Seconds to show answer for to 0.1.
  4. Enabling Wait for audio.
  5. Setting Question action to Show Answer.
  6. Setting Answer action to Bury Card.

After “reviewing”, you can then unbury the cards from the browser. You can save the above options in a preset for quick reuse.

  1. Note however that there are some bugs with this feature, so this method might not work, at least for now. ↩︎

Thank you, I understand Anki’s core is built around active recall and feedback, not passive listening.

However, what I (and many other language learners) am asking for here is not meant to replace the spaced repetition process. It’s more of a complementary listening practice mode.

We don’t want this mode to mark cards as correct/incorrect or advance SRS intervals.

The idea is simply to listen again to the audio of the cards we’ve already reviewed that day (or in a filtered deck) — purely for pronunciation and reinforcement, like listening to a podcast of your study material.

This doesn’t interfere with the learning process because it’s not for rating difficulty, just for exposure and repetition.

Yes, Auto Advance can be configured to mimic this behavior, but it requires going through many options each time, which isn’t very user-friendly. A simple “Play Card Audio” option in the deck menu would make this accessible for everyone without tweaking settings.

Export Card to Audio

This add-on allows you to convert your notes to an .mp3 file so you can listen to your card content.

You can select your recognition and recall fields to add them to the audio. If the field has audio, the audio will be used; if it has text, the add-on will convert the text to speech.

Currently, the add-on only works on Windows. If you are a developer and want to add support for another OS, contributions are more than welcome. Here is the GitHub repo.

Exporting everyday is not feasible, that also only on pc :sob:.

What exactly do you need to set up each time?
