My old iPhone stopped working suddenly, and when I got a new iPhone and downloaded Anki, I pressed synchronize and entered my account info and all progress from my old phone synced to the new one except for the images. I tried logging out again and logging in and syncing again and it will not download the images with the flash cards. Does anyone know how to fix this?
If you had everything synced to your AnkiWeb account – and you’re sure that you’re logged in with the same AnkiWeb account – you may need to sync several times to download all of the media – Media files may take time to sync - Anki Docs . The AnkiWeb account connected to the email address you used to post here doesn’t have very much media in it, so it’s possible that you didn’t sync it to AnkiWeb, or this isn’t the right account.
If you had your old device backed up to iCloud, you should also be able to get your collection back by restoring that to your device. See Apple Support for instructions about that.
I did not have it synced to my iCloud. And I’ve pressed synchronize many times and it doesn’t add anything new.
That leaves these options.
Either from the study screen which says what media is missing, or from running ⚙️ Preferences > Check Media – can you give me (as text) the filename of a missing file? I can check that against this AnkiWeb account and tell you if that file exists.
Yes here is a file name:
Missing: 0ef27f793aab027d014e037a328490b3.mp3
There’s no file with that name in this AnkiWeb account, so you’re not going to be able to get it by syncing.
I can tell you that no files have been deleted from the account in the past 30 days. There’s also no history of data being deleted from the account due to inactivity.
Possible explanations –
- You didn’t sync your old phone often enough, or hadn’t synced it recently enough for it to have uploaded all of your media to your account.
- You had media syncing disabled on your old phone.
- You were using a different AnkiWeb account with that phone.
If it’s 1 or 2 – You’ll only be able to recover the files from your old phone, or an (automatic) iCloud backup of it.
If it’s 3 – You’ll have to figure out what account/email address you were using –
- Check any device(s) you have used Anki on. You’ll see your account email address in
Preferences > Syncing. - Check your email accounts for confirmation messages you would have received from
ankiweb.net. - Go to https://ankiweb.net/account/settings and see if you have your credentials saved in your browser/cookies.
Ok thank you. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to recover them ![]()
