Apologies if this question has already been asked! But I have been using Anki for a while now and have come to realise that my brain is probably not as. “in sync” with Anki’s algorithm as it should be - that is to say, I believe my short-term memory to be worse than most and so would therefore benefit from more frequent card repetitions earlier on.
My problem is that I do not know how to assess this - which metrics to look at, and how to adjust them, for example - so any guidance on how to perform this evaluation and adjust my card scheduling accordingly would be enormously appreciated!

Perhaps those settings work for you out of the box. Compared to the default settings, you’ll probably want to add a few steps before your cards are graduated, then use a lower starting ease factor and use lower percentage increments when pressing good.
