On Mobile so this might be wonky. I apologize.
Been using the Japanese core 2k decks. I’ve finished decks 1 and 2 and after poking around jumped to ten because ultimately it’s vocab and people online said 6-10 were a bit more day to day.
Anyway, the other decks maintain their photos but step 10 will not reveal the photo when reviewing. When I inspect the photo it has a working URL.
I’ve synched everything best I can. Never used ankiweb or web browser til today since most other troubleshooting said to check that, All my downloading and usage of anki has been via my phone only prior. I did check the photo on ankiweb and only when I inspect the card does it show me.
As well, I can find the photo while editing the card in the production tab.
While typing this out I learned something new. The picture does not appear in my reading tab while in other decks they do do. I can’t seem to determine where to change that setting of there is one
Any ideas will be useful thanks.
I’ll post as many screenahots as I can to show what I’ve checked and what I see
What do you mean by these? I’m having trouble figuring out some of the terminology you’re using. I’m not trying to be a stickler, but knowing where the image shows up and where it doesn’t is important to figuring out why. The only screenshot you posted regarding the image itself is that it shows up in AnkiWeb when you are editing the note.
If it shows up in the note editor, but doesn’t show up when you preview and study the card – that means this is probably a card template problem. Check Media shows that the files are there – which is another indicator that the template is the problem.
My bad, I thought I had screen shot that too. I made the post late last night and was a little tired.
Here they are I have both set to show answer. One is Production (Eng->Jap), and shows the photo
And the one with the kanji is reading. (Jap->Eng) It is both this, and the listening card, that should have the attached photo.
These images come from my note editor, when previewing how the cards will look. But the image does not appear when I review or study a card.
How would I go about changing the template? Is there a method to do that within an entire deck so I don’t have to manually adjust each card as it comes up.
Okay, got it – production and reading are card types.
Just another point of view – it makes sense for a “production” card to have an image – you know what this is in your native language, produce what it is in your target language. But does it make sense for a “listening” and “reading” card to have the image? I would think that would be too big of a clue – because it basically gives you the answer for what you’re listening to or trying to read.
It sounds like you see the exact same thing for each card/card type in preview as you do when studying. The issue is only that the different card types are showing you different things?
Yes, that’s exactly what the templates do. You enter data in a note. Anki has sets of directions that tell it how to build cards from that information – card types/templates. When you change anything on a template, it will make that change for the cards of every note that uses that note type. [This will all make more sense if you get familiar with key concepts like notes and cards – Getting Started - Anki Manual]
If you want to make edits to your templates, first read up on what you’ll be looking for – Field Replacements - Anki Manual . In AnkiDroid (although this is usually easier in Anki desktop), from the Decks screen – 3-dots menu > Manage note types > (find this note type) > Edit cards. The different card types will be listed across the top, and the front template, back template, and styling across the bottom.
