Number of flash cards that can be revised per day

Hi,

I am new to Anki, I tried to change the number of cards that I can revise per day, however it looks as if this info was not retained by the system. I basically do not understand the criteria used by Anki to decide how many cards I am allowed to revise and how to change this. Many thanks in advance for your help!

The settings for daily limits are described here – Deck Options - Anki Manual – and in the :white_question_mark: tooltips in the Options screen.

I’m not sure if you’re asking about how many New cards are introduced, or how many due Review cards you are shown, but if you have any specific questions about what you’re seeing, you can ask those too.

In addition, this general advice for beginners might help guide you –

  1. Read Getting Started, so you know what Anki can do – and Studying, so you know how to use it. Skim the rest of the manual if you have time, so you will know where to find things when you want them later on.
  2. Enable FSRS.
  3. Set one short (5m-20m) learning step and relearning step.
  4. Optimize your FSRS parameters (and then come back monthly to re-optimize).
  5. Study all of your due cards every day – no backlogs, no long re/learning steps to carry cards over to the next day.
  6. Don’t introduce New cards at a faster pace that you can keep up with the reviews on. [Expect that your daily workload will be 8-10x your daily New card limit.]

Hi,

Thank you ever so much for your prompt reply. As a new Anki user there’s a lot of information to take in. I apologize if I did not express myself correctly, however when I get to the message as per picture below, is there any way to continue my cards revision? From what I read, correct me if I am wrong, I might have pressed the “good” button too often hence Anki thinks that there are no cards for me to revise, am I correct in saying so? Is there a way now to bypass the message and continue my studying?

PS: I have already modified the number of cards I would like to review daily using the “custom study feature”, but the information is not retained by the system and nothing changes. So I wonder what I am supposed to do in order to obtain my goal i.e. review as many cards as I like daily. Thanks :folded_hands:

You might just not have any more cards due today. That’s totally normal – Anki's not showing me all my cards! - Anki FAQs . [I couldn’t find an AnkiWeb account for you, so I couldn’t look at your collection directly.]

If you’ve set a low max daily review limit, I encourage you to set that to unlimited (“9999”) so Anki will show you everything that is due. Other than that, let the scheduler worry about scheduling your cards when they need to be studied.

That Custom Study option doesn’t increase the number of cards that are due on a day, it just shows you more of them if there are more that are already due today, but have been hidden because your max daily reviews is set too low.

I’m not using the PC version but you should find a “Deck Options” setting for your deck, maybe by right-clicking on its name, and change the values to whatever limit suits you. :slightly_smiling_face:

I am using a MacBook Pro which probably does not make things as smooth as using other devices. In fact I was told that Anki works better on Androids devices. Having said that, I did find the page you displayed and I changed the values, what I will try to do is to add more new cards as I think that this would help me to achieve an increase in the number of cards I can review daily.

As far as my account is concerned, to my surprise I was not asked to create one when I downloaded the application, could you please explained to me how to do it now without losing the cards I have already added? I only add to create an account to access this forum.

I increased the daily review limit, but I haven’t seen any changes, As I am new to Anki, I will add more new cards, by doing this I seem to have read that the number of cards to review daily will increase :crossed_fingers:t2::four_leaf_clover:

Anki doesn’t require you to make an account, but it’s an option available to you, if you like. Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual

The first time you sync, if you’re given the choice, you need to upload to AnkiWeb.

What did you increase it from? What did you increase it to?

Changing that limit will only impact you here if you have been hitting the limit.

Many thanks for your message. I increased my decks to 50/500 and I think that the first figure was originally 20.

When I review my cards, are they supposed to rotate automatically after a few seconds or do I have to do it manually?

If you were hitting the 200 daily limit, then changing it to 500 would make a difference. But I doubt you were.

Go up to my first response and read the links I gave you there.

No, your cards will not by default flip over automatically. There are ways to do that, but I wouldn’t recommend that functionality for a beginner still getting used to the system.

As I use Anki to learn foreign languages, I wonder if there is a way to add the pronunciation of the new words I am learning in the card. And if it is possible, how do I install this linguistic feature?

As native language audio files? – You can attach those to your notes (in their own field), and add that {{field replacement}} to your card templates.

Using built-in TTS to read your cards to you? – You can add that to your card templates.

As TTS audio attached to your notes? – You can do that using an add-on like HyperTTS.

If you are looking for more detail about any of those options, you should search first.
