Newb can't get Anki to launch on Mac Monterey. Terminal launches instead

Hi,

I’m running Monterey 12.7.6 (can’t run newer OS on my computer)

I try to open Anki (version 25.09) from the applications folder, it opens terminal instead, Terminal displays the following:

Anki Launcher

  1. Latest Anki (press Enter)

  2. Choose a version

  3. Allow betas: on

  4. Cache downloads: on

  5. Download mirror: off

  6. Uninstall

I’m a first time user, but can’t get it to launch, (so it’s not that it used to work and has now stopped)

I’ve tried re-installing the app, and restarting computer. I’m guessing I need an older version of Anki? Which one should I try? Or what else do people suggest?

I’m a bit of a Luddite, so might need basic instructions.

Thanks for your help,

T

Press Enter.

Terminal says:

Checking for updates…

But nothing else happens.

Thanks for the reply.

After you press “Enter”, the installation process can take up to 10-20 minutes for the many individual Anki components to be downloaded and installed. You will see messages in the Terminal as each component is downloaded. Please be patient and wait for the process to fully complete.
