New User Desktop App Not Responding

  1. It sounds like this was a fresh install on a computer that never had Anki before – so since the app has never loaded, you don’t have any add-ons installed – and you don’t have AnkiWeb syncing set up yet – is all of that correct?

  2. Is the unusual color of the Anki window elements (green, gray, red) something that you expect on your system? What are you using to impose those colors?

  3. Do you have any antivirus / firewall / malware / VPN / proxy apps running on your system that could be blocking the port Anki needs? The window is essentially drawn as locally hosted webpages, so those can interfere.

  4. Is this version 25.02 that you installed? Did you use the default program and data locations on install, or did you choose your own?

  5. When you uninstalled, did you also delete the entire program folder – %LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\ – before reinstalling? Try that. And since you don’t have any data yet, you could also try deleting the Anki2 data folder – %APPDATA%\Anki2 .

  6. Take a look at the suggestions here: Anki opens with only menu bar visible, rest of the window is blank - #20 by keIciour . [There are also some suggestions here: Anki freezes up and says 'Not Responding' when I try to open it on my Windows 10 machine , but they are a few years old at this point, so I don’t know if they will be fruitful.]

  1. I’m not responding to this question because I have no idea what that means. But is it graphics-driver related?
