New user to Anki. Installed the app and when I open it, it always says not responding.
I have tried opening as administrator and holding shift, no difference.
My drivers are up to date; I am using the latest version.
I’ve uninstalled (including files), reinstalled; restarted computer; turned off antiviral software; installed last 3 versions; all with the same end result.
I am running on a corsair with AMD. Could that be causing the problem?
I’ve spent HOURS on this with no luck. PLEASE HELP!
It sounds like this was a fresh install on a computer that never had Anki before – so since the app has never loaded, you don’t have any add-ons installed – and you don’t have AnkiWeb syncing set up yet – is all of that correct?
Is the unusual color of the Anki window elements (green, gray, red) something that you expect on your system? What are you using to impose those colors?
Do you have any antivirus / firewall / malware / VPN / proxy apps running on your system that could be blocking the port Anki needs? The window is essentially drawn as locally hosted webpages, so those can interfere.
Is this version 25.02 that you installed? Did you use the default program and data locations on install, or did you choose your own?
When you uninstalled, did you also delete the entire program folder – %LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\ – before reinstalling? Try that. And since you don’t have any data yet, you could also try deleting the Anki2 data folder – %APPDATA%\Anki2 .
As far as I know, in theory it’s possible that amd isn’t supported (depends on build flags). But not sure if that’s the case here, considering Install & Upgrade - Anki Manual. Also, I’d expect anki to not run at all, if the architecture wouldn’t be supported.
In other words, I do not think that’s the issue for OP.
I’ll run all this by my husband later as he is more tech savvy than I.
yes, this is a fresh install. I don’t have any add-ons installed (that I know of). I do have ankiweb that I’ve used only through the web browser.
These are just the colors that it is. I’m not doing anything special to expose those colors.
I have turned off all the above mentioned before installing.
I’ve tried installing several different versions including 25.02. I tried default program and data locations as well as desktop. I double checked that nothing was installing on onedrive as I read that would not work.
I did follow all those steps to make sure everything was fully deleted before each repeated attempt to reinstall.
I’ll run through these suggestions. Thank you!
Anon_0000 already responded better than I could. haha!
Got it! Thanks for all your help. I used the link to find out how to disable my GPU driver. Once I did that, I had to change the settings to software from Direct3D. Once that change happened, no more problems.
