New to Anki, trying to flip card on prebuilt deck, problem with templates

Hi, I’m new to Anki.

Yes, I have done a search on this problem on this forum and in the documentation, and I’m still at a loss.

I downloaded a deck and cannot flip the cards and save them due to a template error.

Here’s the error: “Card template ⁨2⁩ in note type ‘⁨Basic (and reversed card)+⁩’ has a problem. The front side is identical to card template ⁨1⁩.”

The template seems to have been created by the deck’s author. Note the plus sign at the end of the name.

Where the heck do I find these templates to edit them? Here’s what they APPEAR to be in the Card Edit view.

Front template:

{{Front}}

Back template:

{{FrontSide}}

{{Back}}

How would these ever be considered “identical”?

If you are on the screen where you are clicking “Flip” and trying to save – you are already looking at the templates. The + at the end of the name means that this note type was (likely) imported, but it might or might not be pretty much the same as the default “Basic (and reversed card)” note type.

If that note type already makes 2 cards, I’m not sure what you’re trying to change about it. Can you explain more about that?

The error is telling you that you’ve changed Card 2 to be identical to Card 1 on their fronts – you posted a front and back template.

To switch between the card types in that template editor, you use the dropdown at the top –
