New subdecks get the default preset instead of that of the parent deck

If I create a new subdeck inside an existing deck, the new deck gets the default preset. However, since I created this deck inside an existing deck, I expect the new deck to get the preset of the parent deck. This issue is now more important than before because FSRS works on a per-preset basis.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently, when I create a new subdeck it automatically gets “Default” preset. I usually have separate presets for various subjects (e.g. “Japanese”) and I often create new subdecks. Everytime I do that, I have to go and change its preset to have the settings and FSRS parameters I want.

Describe the solution you’d like
Maybe, some switchable setting to make subdecks inherit parent deck preset

Describe alternatives you’ve considered

There was the same issue created in January, but it got no response New subdecks get the default preset instead of that of the parent deck

Maybe allow selecting a preset at the same time you’re adding a deck. Changing default behaviour here can cause confusion and this already seems like a better solution to me. It will require changing the UI though.

Hi. Every time I create a deck it gets a default preset and doesn’t inherit the preset of its parent deck. Is there any way to change that behavior? Sure, I can press Save preset to all subdecks, but it’s a little tedious if you create several new subdecks every day. Thanks in advance.

There isn’t currently a way to change that.

  • If you have a “usual” set of options that you want applied to most decks, you might consider using those options on the “Default” preset. You can even rename that preset to what you call your primary preset.
  • Your deck tree appears to be following a textbook or syllabus. You might consider whether that many decks is an effective organizational structure in Anki. Adding/Editing - Anki Manual
