Need backup from Ankiweb

Hi. I mostly use ankiweb and hit sync on the computer agent and it performed an upload sync which erased all my progress. Is it possible to override this on ankiweb? Sync occurred within the last 15 minutes.

I read through other posts. I don’t recall being prompted with an upload or download after I hit sync, it just started syncing and performed an upload.

Is this more avoidable in the ios app if I intend to use anki almost exclusively on mobile?

Are you sure it erased something? The collection you currently have on AnkiWeb includes 17 days of review history – including from today. What are you looking for that you can’t find? Or what looks wrong to you?

How far out of date was your desktop Anki collection? [How long had it been since you synced?]

Unless you were setting up syncing for the first time, or made a certain change to your collection, there wouldn’t be any reason for Anki to need to one-way sync – but you would definitely be warned before you made that change, and before you did the sync, you’d have to choose what direction to sync in. It’s exactly as avoidable in the iOS app.

It is technically possible to revert your account to the most recent server-side backup, but you don’t get to choose when it’s from. In your account, that backup was made almost 24 hours ago – timestamp your local time zone – so you’d probably lose more than you’d gain.

@Danika_Dakika The last sync from the agent was over a week ago I believe. When I hit sync, both ankiweb and the agent showed no progress on the deck I was using most recent, everything went to 0s except the to learn column.

If it’s not possible to revert ankiweb to an image from yesterday, I’ll just continue on, it was only 2 weeks.

I’m still new to the app, is there documentation on the sync between the agent and ankiweb that I can review to avoid this happening in the future?

Is that what you’re calling the desktop version of Anki that you have installed?

You’ve definitely got review history from this week in your account right now. On desktop, go look at Stats > Reviews (or Calendar) – that will show you how much you’ve been studying each day. In Browse, search up rated:1 to see the cards you studied today.

On the main Decks list? That’s usually a sign of progress. That means you’ve studied your Due Review cards for today, and you’ve introduced the New cards you had planned. All that remains are Learn/Relearn cards that are still on “steps.”
