Learning steps don't make sense

When I set my learning steps to 1m 30m 1d 4d, once I click “good”, it comes after 12 minutes, not 30. Then, if I wait, the next interval that comes up for “good” is 4 days not one??? I don’t understand. I’ve looked at the other posts, there is no subdecks controlling the settings, I’m not staying late in the day, and I don’t know what to do.

Also, graduating and easy interval also don’t make sense to me due to the prior issue + fuzz factor. Can someone please explain or at least recommend any settings :frowning:

It’s hard to tell you what’s going on with any particular card without seeing its Card Info, but here are some possible reasons you’re not seeing what you expect.

  • You’re looking at the wrong Deck Options. The ones that will matter are the Options for the subdeck these cards are actually in, not for any parent deck. [And don’t just assume the subdeck is using the Options you think it is. You should check.]
  • You’re mis-clicking and applying a different grade than you think you are.
  • If you mean it’s coming back in 12 actual minutes (as opposed to being set for a 12m interval?) – if you’re at then end of your cards for the day, that’s probably due to your Learn Ahead Limit. Preferences - Anki Manual
  • You’ve changed the learning steps while you have cards in Learn. That is likely to cause skipped or repeated steps.

You don’t say what doesn’t make sense about them, or what they are set to. It’s hard to help if we don’t know the problem. :person_shrugging:t4:

[I would be remiss if I didn’t suggest you leave the long-steps and graduating intervals behind and enable FSRS. It’s simply a better scheduling algorithm.]
