Include Change deck into App bar buttons

Currently, when you want to move a card to a different deck you need to open the browser and search for the card. When you want to do this to a card while reviewing, the extra navigation steps of 1) exit reviewer 2) open browser for deck 3) type search to find the card you were just reviewing or reviewed 4) long press to select card 5) perform change deck from action menu. On desktop Anki, changing deck from the reviewer is as fast as, 1) press B, 2) press ctrl+D 3) select deck and click Move cards.

Changing the deck of a card in the reviewer would of course mean that the card may disappear from the current reviewer session, is that the reason why it’s not there already?

I do this often and I’ve currently made it faster by including a <button> in the template which opens the browser to the current card with the AnkiDroid JS API api.ankiSearchCard(...). I notice that doing this while a reviewer session is open doesn’t cause any problems and the deck change can be immediately reversed from the undo button in the reviewer. So, It appears the consequences of a deck change done in the reviewer are already adequately handled?

“Change deck” really isn’t a study-session action, so I think there might be some hesitation to bring it into the study screen. I have an alternative idea for you. It was still at the suggestion stage last time it was on my radar, but at least it’s been discussed.

What if opening the Card browser during a study session opened to the card you are studying – just like desktop Anki? That would skip steps 1-3, and bring the sequence much closer to what you see on desktop.

Would the browser show you the full list/deck with that card already selected? Or would search be filtered down to just that card/note? Those were still open questions last I checked.

I do it using the edit note function. I’ve also set a gesture to quickly open the editor, so changing deck is quite fast in my case. Changing note type too. Does that work in your case?

Oh my god, It’s right there but I was looking for it in the top right action menu… :drooling_face: Thanks for pointing that out, indeed that makes changing deck about as fast as on desktop.
