Improve search snippet

I think the search snippets for ankiweb.net and it’s subdomains should be improved. Look at these two:

For reference, this is what AnkiPro looks like in Google:

And AnkiApp:

For further information on snippets, see Google Search documentation.

Search snippets provide information on a page when you search it on Google. I think bad search snippets may make Anki look less reliable to some when the copycats are doing better at it.

Anki’s similar apps like AnkiApp and AnkiPro are much more focused on advertising than on the usefulness of their apps, Anki develops useful content but does not advertise it, so copying Anki’s similar app’s advertising methods will enhance Anki’s advertising with very little resource consumption.

There are also things that Anki is uniquely positioned to do. If @dae invests some time I believe he can claim the following knowledge panel:

It is then possible to link to images better suited to promote Anki. The logo is nice, albeit it should be from Anki’s website and not Wikipedia’s. Some more nice looking images can be added too.

One more thing, I have seen search snippets with search bars which might be useful for the manual.

I don’t know about the forum ones, but the apps site might be better done after Creation of new landing page

I would suggest you also improve the search snippet for other sub-domains of ankiweb.net, just a bit more professional. None of here can do that, neither can we select better images for the knowledge panel of Google as only you can claim that. But yes, I agree we can wait for the landing page to complete first.

If someone can spoon-feed me the required changes to the forum and they can be done quickly, I’ll try to get that done. If by other domains you were referring to documentation such as the manual, those are on GitHub, and can be adjusted via PR.

I did some reaserch and apparently the homepage-description is used in the <meta>description under <head>. Do we have a homepage-description?

As for the manual, I read the mdbooks documentation and submitted a PR: https://github.com/ankitects/anki-manual/pull/227

I used, “The official Manual for Anki, the program that makes learning easier”.
If anybody has suggestions for better description, please let me know.

The description was already set, and appears at the top level as <meta name="description" content="A place to discuss and ask questions about Anki">

I suspected this as it appears in the About page. It’s Google’s fault so unless maybe you’re an SEO expert you wouldn’t know what to do.
