Improve feedback of resetting parameters [deck options]

https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/1g9qh7f/resetting_fsrs_parameters_to_default_not_working/

This user says that it looks like resetting parameters is stuck in an endless loop (it’s not).
Some time ago someone on Discord also thought that resetting parameters is forever stuck (I can’t find screenshots, unfortunately).
It seems that the feedback could be improved.

Maybe just make it so that the circle-arrow symbol needs to be clicked only once, and there is no pop-up that requires a second click?

This would apply to all of the restore-to-default buttons in Deck Options, wouldn’t it – since they are all the same? Or do you think the FSRS parameters need something different than the other settings?

Wasn’t that me? The Android app gives no feedback so how could I know. I was just waiting until the spiral spiral thing will do something on its own.

Also, shouldn’t this be in Suggestions? It also applies to everything else in deck options.

Pop up isn’t the issue. That thing doesn’t feel like something that’s calling for action. At bare minimum, if @dae agrees to adding a question mark it’ll solve some of the confusion. Though, a more prominent pop up with an OK button would be better.

It would apply to all of them

I thought the same the first time until I clicked. A static icon should be used rather than one that keeps revolving as that is normally used in browsers when webpages are loading.

Moved to Suggestions.

I think this is the issue. The thing that confuses folks is the motion – it makes the message look like a “processing” box that pops up over your screen for you to wait for it to finish. And because the option hasn’t reset yet, they think they need to wait for it to. The message doesn’t really need an icon at all, because you’ve already clicked the meaningful icon to open it.

I don’t agree that this should be a single-click action, or that there should be a separate pop-up.

One-click is too easy to do by accident, and it’s too easy to overlook that you did it. And once you click it, your prior selection/values disappear, with no obvious way to get them back.

The current streamlined implementation is great – click the circle to open the option, short mouse move to the message (which highlights on hover), then click the message to confirm the action. A separate pop-up would disrupt that.

@dae thoughts on what would be a good solution? It seems that we agree that the current implementation is less than ideal, but disagree on what would be ideal.

That won’t be a problem after the new release.

If the user has changed something and didn’t clcik “Save”, this will pop up.

I also like the current implementation. Perhaps people are confused by the circle. MB not the window is missing text something like “OK” or “Click on me”

How will it help if the user accidentally resets one setting and purposefully changes another?

Fair enough.

Maybe a seperate pop-up makes more sense for the mobile clients. The current one just looks ugly. Although I think removing the spiraling icon (and maybe adding a ?) will solve the confusion for most users here.
