How to get rid of multiple duplicates in decks?

Apparently I have multiple copies of the same card in the decks. I tried deleting one and it ends up deleting all of the cards. When I am reviewing it seems like I am reviewing the same card multiple times in a row. I do want to keep card 1 and card 2 but I don’t want to see multiple copies of the same card. How do I clear out the extras?

Sounds like the same bug as in the post below, but before you go and fix it, can you tell us what you did that you think might have caused this?

Thank you but not sure how I can fix this. I tried to find duplicates and the search pulls up 0 even though it is obvious that they are duplicates. It happened when I did the following:

  1. I created the cards initially using the basic type.
  2. I then went back and changed about 20 of them to the basic + reverse type.
  3. I deleted the information on one field and imported pictures to the field.
  4. I did a synch so I can practice on my phone.
  5. I pulled it up on my phone which synch’d everything and I started practicing on my phone. That’s when I noticed I kept doing the same cards multiple times.
  6. I now have a bunch of duplicates

Here is a picture of my current. I’m new to Anki but as you can see the “New #” is the same for all of the duplicates. Is that normal?

If they are all one card then are duplicate cards getting inserted into the deck? If this is the case then I figure I should be able to remove the duplicates from the deck but I can’t seem to do that.

See below for my list and then what happens when I select just one line to delete a card.

I have it downloaded on my mac and do all the edits/etc on my mac if it helps.
It seems like it duplicated many times and these are some that I reviewed that have different Due #s.

Thanks for the detailed steps. The post I linked above has the answer to your question (probably): run Check database from the tool bar.

To better understand Anki, you should read the key concepts, but the issue you had here is actually a bug.

This worked. TY. As a temporary stopgap before I was able to resolve it the way you mentioned I made a dummy deck and moved the extras into the dummy deck. The Tools > Check Database looks like it fixed the issue. Thank you very much.
