Hello everybody. I use the anki Version 2.1.60 (76d88073); Python 3.9.15 Qt 6.4.2 PyQt 6.4.0 from Anki because the possibility of inserting new cards even with limitations helps my studies. The new versions only show the new cards if all the previous ones have been revised, which is impossible given the volume I do. I would like to know if there is a method to prevent Anki from updating or a method to always return the version I want. I’m scared of losing my cards…
On the latest version(s) of Anki, if you go into the deck options and turn on the “New cards ignore review limit” option under “Daily Limits”, and set the “New/review order” (under “Display Order”) to “Show before reviews”, you should be able to work through your new card quota before you’re shown any older cards for review, regardless of how many older cards are due.
Edit: By which I mean to say, there shouldn’t be any danger of losing your workflow from upgrading. But if you don’t want to upgrade regardless, I don’t think Anki has an auto-update functionality to begin with, so all you should have to do is decline when it notifies you of an update.
Anki (for Windows, Mac, Linux) doesn’t update automatically.
But I think your logic for remaining on 2.1.60 is flawed. Is it possible you’re talking about the switch from the v2 to v3 scheduler?
One small clarification – this doesn’t control Learn/Relearn cards.
Was there an option for that with the v2 scheduler? I honestly can’t remember. But if that was the case, I guess there might be a slight impact to the workflow.
I know it looks like a small distinction to draw, but it seems like the recent batch of v2 → v3 users are consistently surprised that they can’t force Learn/Relearn cards to wait until after their New cards.
In v2, the only options were in the collection-wide Preferences setting about New in relation to Review (before-mixed-after) – silent as to Learn/Relearn cards. If they were lumped in with Review cards, then the v3 behavior would be a change. But I suspect they were independent of the settings, just as they (mostly) are under v3.
Intraday learning cards that are due have been shown first for as long as I can remember.
