Since 24.11 is no longer compatible with RHEL-8 (requires glibc-2.29), could you please tell me how long 24.06.3 is expected to remain compatible with AnkiDroid (i.e., synchronization will continue to work, etc.)?
My system will be supported for more than four years, so I’m interested in this timeframe
A lot of Anki users stay on older versions so you shouldn’t expect things to break too soon. That said, the main dev probably will have more insights on this.
Three years ago there was a GNUTLS issue that was resolved by the developers, as I haven’t encountered it since. However, this time a fundamental system component is affected, and I don’t see a workaround without resorting to containers.
Unfortunately, the same issue occurs when trying to run aqt via pip.
Incidentally, I found this package tagged “glibc 2.28+”, but I don’t understand how it works
The Python package has been incorrectly tagged; I don’t think it will work on glibc < 2.31. I’ll fix the tag in the next update.
There are no plans at this point to block AnkiWeb access to older clients. I try to maintain compatibility with older clients for as long as is feasible.
