Highlight (Bold) the unhighlighted text

Does anyone know how to fix this? When I bold highlighted text, the text right after it gets bolded (not the highlighted one)

  1. By “highlighted text” do you mean whatever text you currently have selected? Or that the text already has “highlighting” (background color) applied to it?

  2. Does this happen even when you restart in safe mode, without any add-ons?

  3. Are you applying bold by clicking it in the formatting bar or by keyboard shortcut?

I meant the text I’ve selected. It happens with both the formatting bar and the keyboard shortcut. After trying a few different things, it turns out I need to remove the formatting first to fix the problem.

There can be some oddities in applying formatting in the note editor. It comes from Anki being a good WYSIWYG HTML editor, but not a perfect one. The process can also be mucked up by what formatting is already applied to the text, and you might see the same behavior repeatedly if you have a lot of text that is copied/imported from the same source.

It sounds like you’ve already got this one figured out, but if you see odd behavior in the future, try opening the HTML view of the field (by clicking < > above it). Then you can see what is there already, and you can watch how it changes when you’re applying formatting in the Visual view. That can sometimes help solve a mystery.
