Hi there,
I unfortunately spilled water on my laptop yesterday and am currently still keeping it shut off in the hopes it will dry (unlikely).
I had been making flashcards on the anki desktop application for weeks, and have downloaded the official anki app on iphone and ipad but had never used it. Then when this happend with my laptop I tried to log in to the app only to realise that no email address is connected to my anki account. From what I have read on this forum the reason for this is that I never set up an account in the desktop app / did not set up syncing?
Is there anything I can do to access my close to thousand flashcards without access to my laptop? If not, and I do manage to turn on my laptop what is the quickest way to make sure the flashcards from the desktop app will be visible on the anki app or web application?
You can get your AnkiWeb account set up right now, directly on the site. I would leave it empty and not connect it to your other device yet. When you get into your laptop again, then you’ll be able to sync to that fresh account.
Doing a first sync can actually take a bit of time and/or several tries, if you have a lot of media. So if you think you’ve only got a limited window with access to your drive, or you can’t run Anki and need to salvage what you can, you can simply copy your entire Anki2 folder – which contains your collection, media, backup colpkg files, and any add-ons you have installed.
If you can install Anki on a different computer, and copy that whole Anki2 folder into that default storage location, you’ll have access to everything immediately. From there, you can sync your collection up to AnkiWeb, and to your other devices.
