I am having a frustrating issue with not being able to open my Anki on my windows 11 laptop and am scared I will not be able to access my flashcards or use the app again. I have been using Anki for roughly 6 months and about 2-3 weeks ago the app said it needed an update and I pressed update but then after that the update saved to my computer but all of a sudden when I clicked to open the Anki, it just wouldn’t open. My laptop is under an administrator and when I went to the IT department for help, they said the administrator could be blocking the access, however a number of other people in my class have the app and theirs is working fine. I have researched in the startup issue section on the Anki manual and nothing fits what I am struggling with. Would someone please help me and is there anyone that knows what to do?
I thought about deleting the app and reinstalling but am scared I’m going to lose all my flashcards. I signed into anki online but could not get into my actual Anki app to transfer my cards to the online account.
Try safe mode. Troubleshooting - Anki Manual.
Your Anki2
data folder – Managing Files - Anki Manual – is completely separate from where the program is installed. So uninstalling is safe.
However, I don’t think that will necessarily help you in this case. You’d be much better off going through every step of the Troubleshooting Checklist (even the ones you don’t think could be the issue) – Troubleshooting - Anki Manual .
With the troubleshooting issues, I can’t restart it because I can’t get into the app. I don’t know what to do. If I go to an IT place do you think they would be able to help me ad fix the problem or would I be wasting my money?
I GOT IT! Thankyou for everyone who tried to help. I installed anki again without deleting it and then it allowed me to open it and then closed the app and held shift for the safe open and now its back!
Does it open without safe mode? If it only opens in safe mode that probably points to an add-on issue.
How do I know which add on is the issue. The background is just white now and I would like my old background back but am scared it will happen again if I add it.

Remove any add-ons you don’t need, and disable half of the others. If the problem continues, try the other half. Repeat the process until you’ve figured out which add-on is causing the problem. Then please report the issue to the add-on author, using the Copy Debug Info button, and pasting that into the report.
Yeah I saw that on the manual but was hoping there might have been an easier way ahah, thankyou
If you have so many add-ons that the half-by-half process seems onerous – start by disabling any add-ons that haven’t been updated in 3+ years, or where you don’t know what they do.
