Force Sync always enables FSRS

In the past I tried FSRS, but disabled it. I won’t use it.

But I came across a strange behaviour: Always I have to do a forced sync, FSRS will be enabled again.

Is that a bug or for some reason a wanted behaviour?

@dae

Why do you always have to do a forced sync?

Are you ‘forced syncing’ from a device, or collection, in which FSRS is turned on?

Okay, not always, sometimes. I sync from Mac to iPhone and vice versa. No, as said, FSRS is disabled everywhere, but enabled after the forced sync.

Understood. Sorry, it’s been an old habit from earlier days of the forum.

If you have FSRS disabled on both devices, and you force sync upload to AnkiWeb on one of them, you’re right that nothing should end up with FSRS enabled.

This is going to be hard for a dev to take a look at without a lot more information and reproducible steps. For instance, you haven’t said whether it’s ending up enabled on the device that sent the forced syn, or the device that received the forced sync – or whether you’re forcing upload (which I assumed above) or forcing download – or which app you’re using on your phone.

Before you try to come up with a reproduction case, you should at least work through the Troubleshooting Checklist – Troubleshooting - Anki Manual – to eliminate variables like versions and add-ons.

Of course I eliminated the version and plugin issues before.

But okay, it seems you aim to put the bar very high.

I’ll see, when I come to produce all possible error scenarios in detail.

Normally I don’t do forced sync quite often - and when at least I know now, that I have to be aware of this error.

So, at the moment it’s easier for me that way.

I thought, it would be a good idea, to help, so that others don’t have to run in this error too. And I’m really eager to help.

But honestly, I feel, that’s not really welcome anymore.

Maybe a question of tonality …

But hey, never mind: @dae

I think you misinterpreted Danika_Dakikas intentions here.

It’s impossible to solve an issue if we don’t know exactly whats causing the issue. Which means steps to reproduce are neccessary. Also, most users don’t go through the troubleshooting list. And since you didn’t mention that you did that, it’s logical to refer you to the troubleshooting page.

You even mentioned above that your initial description of the problem wasn’t accurate here:

In other words: Solving problems is only possible if the problem is well defined and confounding variables are ruled out. That's true for every problem.

Your problem isn’t well defined and confounding variables might not have been ruled out yet. Danika_Dakika wrote that paragraph because Danika_Dakika is trying to help you.

That’s great! And the same applies to Danika_Dakika and a lot of other people here and on other anki related places.
