Win10, 64-bit. Does anyone know? What could be causing this effect in dark mode?
It appeared last year, and I thought it might be the graphics card. But even changing it didn’t change anything. Well, I don’t need dark mode that often; I’ve been using light mode for six months. I thought maybe this update would change something, but nope.
If this is not a new issue in the beta, please make a separate post for it.
I don’t want to interfere with people’s work. I somehow manage without the dark theme. Let’s say, if the problem were with the video card or processor, then maybe Win11 wouldn’t work in the virtual machine either.
I think the problem is in the Win10 settings, but I don’t know what I did there that made everything work except Anki. I renamed the AppData\Local\Programs\Anki folder and reloaded everything, but nothing changed. There might also be a registry issue. The only thing that literally won’t switch is the menu component.
So if everything is fine for everyone else, then that’s okay. People will think it’s just a coincidence.
Don’t post in the beta thread/channel unless you have an issue related to the beta build.
What happens if you turn on dark mode, then close anki, then reopen anki? Is the menu bar correct in that case?
If yes, I fixed a similar issue for the web components that behaved this way (it’s in the current beta). Maybe the beta thus fixes this issue of yours as well.
The prefs21.db file in Anki stores user preferences, interface configuration, and synchronization data for version 2.1+. If Anki frequently crashes or fails to launch due to interface errors (such as too small fonts), deleting or moving this file will cause the program to reset its settings to default values.
I’ve already checked this, and the problem is indeed somewhere there. But if I open the database, I don’t see anything I can change…presumably nothing. And if I delete it, it wants to download everything again, so whether it will work properly is still a question.
I had to completely sync. But I’m not sure what the problem was. I thought it was visible somewhere. Maybe it’s stuck in the QT5 settings from that year. I don’t know why it wasn’t updated to the new version either. Perhaps some components were changed and something is still affecting it. But I don’t think this will be a problem for new users.
I don’t know how editing prefs21.db fixed that (touching this file is never recommended). Changing the video driver or using Tools > Preferences > Reset Window Sizes might have also fixed it.
Changing the driver to anything didn’t help. I didn’t reset the dimensions, though. But I left the file, so I replaced it again, and it started glitching again. I tried resizing it, but it didn’t make any difference. I showed the contents of the BLOB field on the screenshot. Perhaps some updates last year interfered and left the issue. Since this is a rare occurrence, I don’t think anyone else will experience this.
