i had it last year for anking deck use, and was grdauting at regular itnervals by a day or two to mature cards that i knew. is there somehting i can do to fix this. Waht are the general normal parameters? and how do i fix them to graduate at a more regular interval
By graduating, do you mean the interval you see when you hit “Good” or “Easy” while reviewing a card?
In Anki terminology, a card graduates when it finishes its initial learning steps and becomes a review card. After that, successful reviews cause its interval to grow. For example: 1 day → 3 days → 8 days → 20 days → 1 month, etc.
If that interval is what you mean by graduating:
What might be happening is that you were using the older SuperMemo 2 (SM-2) algorithm. With SM-2, you can set a graduating interval for cards leaving the learning phase. Even though it is a good algorithm, it can still make you review cards more frequently than needed.
Nowadays, Anki has the FSRS algorithm. When switching from SM-2, it might feel like cards are scheduled too far out and that you will forget them, but that can be completely normal. I avoided FSRS for a while because of that, but now I can’t live without it. You can check if you have FSRS enabled in your deck settings. It is a newer and generally more efficient algorithm for Anki that uses your review history to determine appropriate intervals.
If you are missing cards too often because of longer intervals, causing your retention to fall below your target, optimizing your FSRS parameters will adjust the intervals for you, so you don’t need to worry. You can also increase your desired retention if you want shorter intervals and more frequent reviews.
Here’s how the settings page changes depending on whether you have the SM2 or FSRS algorithm enabled
FSRS disabled (SM-2 algorithm):
FSRS enabled (new algorithm):
thanks, yea so the second time i see a card the time lapse is 1.5 months instead of the usual 3 day or 5 day situation. Also when i say mx reviews with new cards it doesnt actually do that, it just keeps giving me new cards here are my settings
normally this would be for a super mature card but i have only clicked easy twice on thisYou’re definitely using the default SM-2 algorithm, which means the scheduling formula is pretty straightforward arithmetic – What spaced repetition algorithm does Anki use? - Anki Docs .
It’s good to have seen the changes you’ve made to the default Options [and hopefully you understand the settings you’ve changed and why you’ve changed them], but what would help the most is to see the Card Info for this card – so we can help you work out why it’s being scheduled like it is. It might be overdue, or it might not have the review history you think it does.
