I set up an Anki deck several years ago and wrote many questions but ended up never using it. I then left the deck for a couple of years before I started adding it to it again and began to study from it. For some reason the original cards I created never show up when I am studying.
I have done thousands of questions and not once has a single original card appeared (the original questions would make up at least 10% of all questions in my deck). I can see the original questions there when I look in browse mode.
I apologise if this has been answered before but I would be grateful for any help.
Take a look at the “Due” column in the browser. If the original cards are review cards, you should see their due date. If the original cards are new (blue) cards you can use the reposition command and / or the different option in Deck Options > New card gather order to do what you want (randomize the order, see first the older ones, etc) with them.
Ah brilliant - thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.
I had a look and it looks like all the original questions are indeed labelled as “New”.
If I right click on an original card I can see “reposition” option. Is this what you mean? I would like the original questions to appear in random order like all the other cards.
Would I select all the original cards in Browse mode, then right click and select “Reposition”, then check “Ramdomise order”?
I’d recommend you open the deck options, and change the order to random. If it’s already on that, change it to ordered, save the changes, and then change it back again. That will shuffle all of your cards, ensuring you get a mix of older and newer ones.
I had a look and it was already on random. I have done as you suggested (i.e. changed it to ordered and then saved, then change back to random and saved). Hopefully this will solve the issue!
