Cards being recorded as 'Again' cards when I rate them as Easy using keys

I have noticed the cards I am rating 4, which is my keyboard shortcut for easy, are showing up as being rated 1 in the card info and keep showing up as an ‘Again’ card and I cannot figure out why. When I use my mouse to manually click the card rating everything is fine it is just when I use my keys. My keys are fine, the shortcuts are the right way round, I have opened Anki on shift to disable add-ons and have the same problem, what’s wrong?

Are you sure? That sounds very much like you changed the shortcuts in Preferences > Review, or like you have that key remapped.

Are you looking at the card info immediately after grading the card, or are you searching the card up later?

What is your operating system?

If you just open a normal text entry field in Anki (say, to create a new note, or if you type your answers to cards) and you type “1234”, does it show the numbers correctly?

Does it make a difference whether you answer using the number keys on the top row of your keyboard or the number pad on the right?

Are you using any system-wide software that can intercept and modify key presses, like AutoHotKey?

Is it only Easy that gets changed, or all of your answers?

Are you using a filtered deck?

If you’re a Linux user, have you tinkered with anything that might contribute to this? (I say this fondly as a fellow Linux user - the freedom to tinker with everything can occasionally lead to us creating some pretty exotic problems.)

I agree with @Danika_Dakika, the most likely reason is that the settings in Anki are incorrect. But if you’ve triple-checked and you’re absolutely positive that they’re not, then this is a pretty interesting technical mystery!
