When trying to change the formatting of the cards in a deck the code is partially or completely out of the frame of the screen with no way to scroll up or highlight up to see it. Issues persists after app uninstall/reinstall and hard reset. Same issue in both landscape and portrait mode. The only way to see the code is by windowing the app to a smaller size. iPadOS 26.3
Could you please confirm, is it version 25.09 of the AnkiMobile app that you are using?
I do not see the problem behavior on my iPad mini 4, iPadOS 15.8.5, AnkiMobile 25.09. On my device, the styling text is correctly in-frame.
I note that your screenshots of the Card Template screen look different compared to what I see. The UI layout is different. Your screenshots show the Front/Back/Styling/Preview text buttons at the top center of the screen. But, in my app those buttons are along the bottom of the screen, with different spacing, and the buttons are icons with smaller text, not plain text buttons.
Your screenshots of the AnkiMobile app on iPad also look different compared to what I see on my iPhone with iOS 26.4 and AnkiMobile 25.09. The UI layout that I see on my iPhone is the same as what I see on my iPad mini. (I also don’t see the problem behavior on my iPhone.)
(I note that I am running a much older version of iPadOS. But, I’m not sure whether that would make difference in how the AnkiMobile app looks and behaves? I’ll try to see if I can get an iPad set up with the latest iPadOS to do testing.)
Interesting. Yes, version is AnkiMobile 25.09. Updated to iPadOS 26.4 and the issue still persists. Disconnected the bluetooth keyboard and the issue still persists. As far as I know, the UI is the default—I’ve never attempted to move or change the buttons, if that’s even possible.
I installed Anki 25.09 on an iPad (9th generation) with iPadOS 26.4.
I now understand why there was different-looking UI for the AnkiMobile app Card Template window:
- The Anki app UI is responsive and changes according to the window geometry.
- When the window is wide enough, the UI seen by the OP is seen, with the Front/Back/Styling/Preview buttons at the top.
- When the window is narrow, the UI that I saw is seen, with the buttons at the bottom.
- By resizing the window, I can see the UI change back and forth as it crosses the width threshold.
- On my older iPad mini and on my iPhone, apparently the window is never wide enough to enable the buttons-on-top UI, even in landscape mode.
I do see the problem behavior on my iPad.
And, now taking a closer look on my iPhone, I also see the problem behavior there as well. (I missed it earlier when looking at my iPhone because either I inadvertently triggered the workaround or I believed that I was seeing the entire text and did not realize that there was additional text hidden at the top.)
However, I reconfirm that I do not see the problem behavior on my iPad mini (which I upgraded to iPad OS 15.8.7 which is still quite old).
The behavior on iPad, in the Card Template window:
- Front: The text starts just below either the top row of buttons (if the UI is buttons-at-top) or the top bar (if the UI is buttons-at-bottom). (This is the correct state.)
- Back: The text starts at the top of the window. The first 5 lines of text are hidden, covered by the top bar.
- Styling: Same as Back.
There is a workaround on iPad if windowing is enabled. If you resize the window to become very narrow, at some point a threshold is crossed and the text reformats itself to the correct state. Once the text is in the correct state, the window can be re-widened.
The behavior on iPhone, in the Card Template window:
- Front: The text starts just below the top bar. (This is the correct state.)
- Back: The text starts at the top of the window. The first 2.5 lines of text are hidden, covered by the top bar.
- Styling: Same as Back.
On iPhone there is a workaround. When the problem occurs, rotating the iPhone to switch portrait/landscape mode causes the text to reformat itself to the correct state. Once the text is in the correct state, the phone can be rotated again back to the original portrait/landscape mode.
