Can't turn off "Interrupt current audio"

As there is no entry in the manual, I assume that the option “Interrupt current audio” works identically to the one on the desktop. Unlike the desktop, however, even if I leave it unchecked, audio is still interrupted when moving on to the next card (which is silent on the front). Is it broken or is this expected?

  1. Is that setting syncing between your devices with the rest of your collection? (Certain Preferences don’t sync.)
  2. Is the audio coming from an attached audio file (e.g., MP3) or from a TTS field?
  3. Is the same note/card respecting the setting (audio continues) on desktop, but not (audio stops) in AnkiMobile?
  4. Can you point me to a note/card in your collection that is having this problem, so I can fetch it from AnkiWeb and try this?
  1. I didn’t know any preferences synced. Turning it on and off on my iPhone doesn’t change anything.
  2. The audio is coming from an attached MP3 file.
  3. Correct. If the setting is unchecked on desktop, the audio continues when the next note is displayed. On AnkiMobile it doesn’t.
  4. It happens to my whole collection, I’ve never noticed it working correctly. Here is the Card ID of a card in my collection: 1339252524982. Is that enough to find it?

You can’t replicate the issue? I’ve had it for a few years, but never got around to making a post on it. I’m pretty sure it has never worked for me on AnkiMobile.

Thanks for your help!

The problem is that I need to find a situation where it should work and does – like it works for you on Anki desktop – and compare that to a situation where it should work and doesn’t – like what you’re seeing on AnkiMobile. I was hoping that using your note type/card would make that easier. So far I haven’t been able to get it to work anywhere (i.e. the audio is always interrupted), so either that means I haven’t found the right situation yet, or it’s more broken than you thought! :person_shrugging:t4:

I was able to verify at least that there’s nothing obvious about your card that could be interfering. It has 2 audio files, on the back template, one after the other – and there’s no JavaScript on the card that could be causing issues.

Let’s see if someone with more experience with this feature has something more useful to add.

An open question that is unclear from the feature/docs – what is “answering” supposed to mean? Is disabling the feature intended to allow the audio to continue playing when switching from the front of a card to the back of a card (i.e. clicking Show Answer) – or when switching from the back of a card to the next card (i.e. clicking an “answer”-grading button)?

Other than what you linked to on Reddit from 3y ago, I haven’t been able to find anyone who can’t get the setting to stop interrupting, but:

I’ve had a look through the code, and AnkiMobile is indeed inconsistent here - it stops the current audio playing every time you move to a new card. I’ve made a note to look into it.

The interrupt current audio toggle on the ios version of anki seemly doesn’t work like how it does on the desktop version

The expected result when turning off Interrupt Current Audio on ios it will allow the audio the continue to the next card but in reality it still cuts off the audio

Here is a video of the problem

This was reported previously. Thanks!
