AnkiMobile stopped playing all audio suddenly

First off, thanks for making Anki. I love this app and it’s drastically improved my language learning experience.

Problem description

Suddenly all of the cards on AnkiMobile iOS stopped playing audio during review time, even cards that previously worked.

This has happened once before, and I don’t know what I changed but it suddenly started working again after I re-synced my computer a few times. It started occurring again last night and no amount of syncing fixes it.

My setup

AnkiMobile v25.02.1

Anki 24.11 (87ccd24e) (ao)
Python 3.9.18 Qt 6.6.2 PyQt 6.6.1
Platform: Windows-10-10.0.19045

Things I’ve tried:

  1. Enabling all the audio options like interrupting current audio, ducking background, autoplay in silent mode, etc.
  2. Verifying my phone’s audio works (by playing music, etc.)
  3. Trying with/without silent mode on
  4. Verified the audio works on Anki Desktop on windows 10
  5. Verified that the media log sync is complete on AnkiMobile

Other notes

There’s no sound playing on AnkiWeb either, although I’m not sure if it has that feature.

I’ve seen forum post 41132 (can’t include links for some reason) and verified that the media files are indeed MP3. I did this by using Window’s builtin file properties explorer, which seems to have all the standard MP3 headers (and displays MP3 as the file type):

I also don’t suspect that this is the issue because card audio previously worked for unchanged cards and now doesn’t.
